Cufón aims to become a worthy alternative to sIFR, which despite its merits still remains painfully tricky to set up and use. To achieve this ambitious goal the following requirements were set:

1. No plug-ins required – it can only use features natively supported by the client

2. Compatibility – it has to work on every major browser on the market

3. Ease of use – no or near-zero configuration needed for standard use cases

4. Speed – it has to be fast, even for sufficiently large amounts of text

And now, after nearly a year of planning and research they believe that these requirements have been met.

So, how does it work?

Cufón consists of two individual parts – a font generator, which converts fonts to a proprietary format and a rendering engine written in JavaScript.

My latest file uploaded at ActiveDen is a secret word for hidden content.

The concept is that you must type in the full word for the action to be triggered. You can add any function to this. gotoAndPlay a different area or loadMovie etc.

It’s great for adding some extra features to your website. You can add a few different ones for people to find all the hidden content on your site. You can give out the secret words with a riddle or whatever else you can think of.

I uploaded 2 new files at activeden. They are quite handy XML banner Rotators perfect for image, portfolio or news sections.

All images and text are loaded dynamically via the XML which makes this file very lightweight. You can add as many images as you want and resize to whatever size you need real easy.

The AS is well commented and easy to follow. The supplied documentation explains everything you need to know on how to edit this file. You can use this in any AS3 project or as a stand alone embed in a HTML page .

I will be posting my latest files on ActiveDen on a weekly basis so you can keep up to date with all the great files for sale.

So I’ll start of with a nice little resource for Christmas.

Each globe is it’s own movieclip so can easily be dragged into any project. You can also use this for branding and send it out to your clients as a season greeting. You can edit each globe and write custom messages inside the globes. Everything is vector so can be resized and edited and still look good.

The snow is generated through actionscript and really easy tp edit the amount and size of snowflakes. The documentation explains how to achieve this.

The guys at FlaBell has got a really nice collection of flash files. There are loads of nice files free to download but the file I really like is the Dynamic Flash Video gallery.

Dynamic Flash Video Gallery

This flash video player has an integrated thumbnail playlist and comes with a lot of features which can easily be changed using the XML file (size, colors and other options). It has support for RTMP, HD videos, sharing and fullscreen display.

The video player supports H264 files, as well as RTMP and can play mov, mp4, flv files.

Check out this cool image slider form ProgressiveRed.

Stefan did a really good job on this and best of all is that he is offering cu3ber free of charge. When the page gets loaded, the CU3ER is initiated and first what it will look for is an XML configuration file (optionally .swf font file too, if the defined variable of this file was found). This will be loaded for future use. After loading and parsing XML, the CU3ER configures itself by its defined settings. Then it starts loading images (slides). As soon as the first image is fully loaded, it is displayed and the rest of the images are loaded in the background. Either a 3D transition to the next image is applied after the specific amount of time has passed or the user’s input (mouse click) is “listened” to and an action performed accordingly, depending on the configuration settings. It is as simple as that!.

I finally joined Active Den formerly know as Flash Den. ActiveDen is an Envato Marketplace. At ActiveDen you can buy and sell royalty-free Adobe Flash and Flex files for just a few dollars. Items are priced on the complexity, quality and use of the file. The site is home to a bustling community of Flash designers and developers and is the largest Flash library on the web.

Envato really hookedup a nice site and a handy resource if you looking for some awesome flash files. There’s also Audio Jungle, Theme Forest, Graphic River and Video Hive. Not only is it a market place but a some really good info about these topics. They recently changed their submission
